Qigong are systems of self cultivation that create inner balance, health and longevity. Through the conscious regulation of body posture, breath and intention, a person can empower themselves to care for their own health. While the term “Qigong” is a modern innovation, these exercises have evolved from other practices in China, such as Daoyin and traditional martial arts that have histories of practice of thousands of years.
Actual methods of Qigong vary considerably. Some are very simple and involve easily learned postures and breathing patterns, and are suitable for people of all ages and levels of ability. Others are quite physically demanding. Some methods involve stillness meditation and can be practiced without any physical movement. What they all share in common though is that they aim to allow an individual to treat their own disease or maintain health.
